But the blackest night has turned to day, and I'll be walking you through 5 spoiled cards from the fresh, shiny, very polished, DLL set.
In the events leading up to the blackest night arc we see several unprecedented things happen in the Green Lantern corner of the universe(es):
1: Additional rings become known.
2: Sinestro helps the Green Lanterns.
3: wait, Sinestro wha?
Sinestro is your a-typical arch nemesis, he's got talent out of his ass, he has a grudge that may or may not be justifiable depending on who you talk to, and your typical "bad guy" power complex. Also? He is single-handedly responsible for the early entrance of the Yellow power rings and is effectively the opposite of the GL happy friend squad bringing fear and murder into an organized mass. Hell, the fact he actually took the Green Lanterns to a point where they needed to authorize lethal force could be seen as a victory in itself. Nothing says your doing your job better than seeing good guys set aside their lofty morals.
Sinestro is king pimp. And the Anti-Matter team has a way of getting to you when you feel safest. So you can expect to see alot of tricks focusing on targeting those protected characters. And don't think formations will save you either. This team can also grant protected status to help do their dirty deeds. but with a head the size of Sinestros, you absolutely are going to need some legend love.
See what i mean about protection tricks? A basic generic def redux card becomes some tricky legend love for our favorite evil space vulcan. A pretty strong defensive move in a build looking for defensive stunback tricks.
On the topic of nepharious evil doer's and generally my fave part of the DC universe, the DLL set has no shortage of enemies, and giving them proper representation as they bring the pain in the darkest night storylines.
Lex Luthor has pretty much been the staple bad guy since day 1. and he gives me so much to root for. I mean he's just some kid that had a bit of a hair problem growing up. (i can relate) So he does what any overcompensating kid might do. He kills his rich parents, collects their money and family fortune, and builds an empire. With the advent of the superman, he realizes someone needs to step up and protect the world from this overpowered alien, and essentially wages war on superdude.
Kudos.
Really though. Much respect man.
The guy is an out of the box thinker. believes nothing is incorruptable and simply wants to be prepared for the worst. And what the heck, if it makes him president, and gives him absurd levels of access and power, hey, that's cool too.
Then he got a power ring.

There really isn't much i can say bad about this card. high risk, high reward. just keep in mind this card counds actual cards drawn. not card effects. so every draw phase essentially nets you a free card. For those asking about the 5 card limit and wondering where it came from. here's a bit of insider info.
It originally had no draw cap, until we realized if you had Lex out and your opponent did too, the next draw would trigger both players essentially putting their deck into their hand. While that may follow the avarice theme, it seemed a bit overboard for a 4 drop.
Moving on I saved my favorite villian for last.
Oh Superboy Prime, our very own tainted immature golden age superman. His showing in the main story ark of blackest night was almost nil, but there was that one fight in DC headquarters, and the obliteration of several black lanterns, the overcoming of his own black lantern ring and the death associated with it, and of course before that he sort of killed Monarch, killed Anti-Monitor, and discovered that if you punch hard enough, you really CAN break through the fabric of your reality and go into another one. Who knew?

Superboy's roster was a real treat in this set. You can actually design a build with superboy at 3,4,5 and 6 to great effect. most superboys, similar to the three drop shown here have a boost that affects all future superboys you control as well. Superboy prime VS Hulk anyone? Now if only he had some really really great support....

Oh dear yes. that'll do nicely. Go kill some more green lanterns Superboy. They taste like fail in their meaty bits. Yes i am horribly biased. But you love my previews. Admit it!
You will all love me.
...I'll make you.
This is Onyx prime. signing off.

Nice way to kick things off...love the Superboy vs. Hulk idea. And can't wait to see what else Sinestro has in terms of support.
